African Buffalo

I am still working on my life drawings once a week at Longwick studio, but in the meantime I continue with my wild life paintings.  These buffalo are on a very large canvas, as befits their size.

Next week I have an exhibition in the Subway Gallery of the Queen's Park Art Centre in Aylesbury.  The exhibition will run from 8 to 25 October.  I will show the subjects chosen for the exhibition in my next posting.

Impala Faun

I've been busy lately concentrating on life drawings, pencil or charcoal on paper sketches for the moment.  I will publish a few samples of this work later, when I think it is worthy of sharing.

But for a break I have reverted to my favourite subject of wild life and this is my latest.

The King

Lions have such wonderful faces.  This is a particularly powerful looking 'Alpha Male'.

Predator and prey

I like the idea of a cameo picture inserted into a main theme and the mixing of this magnificent leopard with an impala fawn seemed appropriate.  The subjects of this painting, as well as those for my lions are from a selection of superb photographs taken on a Botswana safari by our friend Brigitte - and this is the link to her website:   http://www.wideafrica.co.za

And here's a photo of my new Specialized racing bike.  I have started training and intend to do a long distance cycle next year to raise money and awareness for the Stroke Association.  So, all my good friends, brace yourselves for sponsorship.

Allez!

The Lions

Thinking about it...

... a bit of affectionate foreplay ...

.... getting down to the serious stuff ....

... and the happy outcome.

The Hippo, Zebras and Wild Dogs

I'm currently attending life classes at a local art centre (The Queen's Park Centre in Aylesbury), so my next project may be the human form.  But for the moment, I continue with my selection from wild life.  The hippo below is one of four I have just entered into the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art.

One calmly browsing hippo...

...a pair of wary Zebras...

.....and a pack of wild dogs.

The Tiger and The Koala Bear

2002 - We spent our first year cruising in the Mediterranean.  This photo was taken in the one the beautiful scenic calanques on the south coast of France.
The Tiger is one of my earlier non-African animal paintings.

.....as is The Koala Bear which now graces Karen's bedroom wall.

First Post - 'Forever'

Peggy and I spent seven years sailing around the world in our 35 foot Hallberg Rassy, 'Forever' - an adventure we can't recommend highly enough to everyone.   Peggy's blog of our voyage round the world.
This photo was taken in the Atlantic, our first ocean, on the way to Madeira.

This is my vision of 'Forever' at sea.  Like all my paintings, it is oil on canvas.
